Harlow Gold

It's the day after the Emmy Awards, so naturally everyone is talking about the best, and worst dressed. I'll get straight to it and say that I think January Jones looked phenomenal. The royal blue Atelier Versace gown popped perfectly on the red carpet, and her black Miu Miu round-toed pumps nicely complimented the look. Top-drawer!

Now for what I really want to talk about. This year I noticed a trend in hair color. Many of the female nominees had a warm, golden hue to their hair.  It was a nice change from a much lighter blonde that we've seen in past years (not to mention makes me want to start singing "Bette Davis Eyes" by Kim Carnes). I'm all in favor of this tone... and you?

"Her hair is Harlow gold..."

Envy Over

Nothing like subconsciously setting yourself up for a shopping spree. I mentioned below that bright green looks great on both brunettes and blondes (me). As I was walking around Manhattan Beach this past weekend, I found this amazing one-shoulder Alice + Olivia dress at my favorite boutique, Bombshell.

I'll be finning around Kauai, Hawaii this week and thought this number would be perfect for dinner one night at The Beach House (paired with flats + big gold earrings). As micro-mini's are my staple, it was probably the last thing I needed, however... it was 80% off. As-if I needed additional ammo, they had only one dress left, which just so happened to be my size. I took it as a sign. As my friend and shopping partner-in-crime Sophia put it, "If you don't end up wearing it in Hawaii, you can always wear it as a Tinkerbell costume for Halloween." Sold.

Green with Envy

 Image: FabSugar

I was walking by a co-workers desk when this Dolce & Gabbana gem stopped me in my tracks... literally. The color is stunning (not to mention looks amazing on both brunettes and blondes), and the mermaid-cut is perfect for all body types; it accentuates Rihanna's already envious curves, and gives the perfect illusion of such to Kelly Lee Joel's slim figure. Oh, and Madonna (the ultimate MOOW) is the current face of D&G's ad campaign- trifecta.

Mer out of Water: Madonna

Madonna is the ultimate Mer out of Water. She is confident, witty, sassy, and beautiful. Without ever watching the music video, I have always love the song "Cherish." It's also one of my favorite words, too. So much so, that I ended up with a one-inch tattoo of it on my body while on a weekend trip to San Diego with my best friend Chrissie... but that's another story.

You can only image how happy/surprised/creeped-out I was when I recently viewed the video for the first time: mermaids (and mermen), one of my favorite songs, by my all-time favorite musician, and favorite word, all wrapped up in a 4 minute video. Thank you, Madge.
